what if

what if you looked back and saw
that you’d been right on track
if you only found one single flaw
just one thing to regret
all the times you listened to the voice
that told you you were lost
told you you were in the dark
that you would pay the cost

what if you looked back and saw
that yeah this much is true
you did kiss all the wrong boys
but you kissed the right ones too

what if you looked back and saw
the dots that were your life
what if you managed to connect them
just to find that life’s perfection
lies in every single dot

what if you looked back and saw
your heart was always strong
even when you fell to pieces
it kept beating on and on

what if you looked back and saw
a body full of scars
what if you stopped trying to conceal them
just to find that you could heal them
by letting down your guard

what if you looked back and saw
that you did live all your dreams
that even when you couldn’t feel it
you were carried by the stream

what if you looked back and saw
that you’d been right on track
if you couldn’t find a single flaw
not one thing to regret
even when you listened to the voice
that told you you were wrong
you were always in the right place
right where you belonged

what if you looked back and saw
that everything was here
that your light was shining brightly
that your heart was dancing lightly
in the fire with your fears
that your love was always flowing
that your soul was even glowing
in the fire of your tears
